What The Papers Would Have Said

Family Fortunes

At the moment there are not that many pictures of my first daughter and me, so I felt I'd indulge in sharing with one of the more recent ones. Sometimes taking photos can get right up my nose, but I think this picture was taking it too far! Do not be afraid of the large looming ugly mug that stares like a gorm, it's just the way Deborah was feeling at the time! (Thanks Bob Monkhouse for that gag - a little twist on the Joker line in the Batman movie where he says to Vicki Vale that at last Beauty and the Beast are together but if anyone else calls her a beast he'll kill them! One of the funniest lines in movie history! How's that for hyperbole.)

Of course you've patiently been waiting for more pictures of the star of the Dryden Show at the moment, Li'l Miss Abigail and so here's your reward. I love babies at this stage of development - eat then sleep, then wake to eat then sleep. Only slight grievance is the timing, but I'm sure I can help her out with that! (I'd better put the mallet away though.)

One Of Those Days

Just a quick one for the time being. In one photo you've got the three most important women in me life at the moment. Deborah, ever the girl with taste realises that it's egg she's eating and shows the respective face of disgust. Resting in the arms of her mother slightly covered by the eggstravagant travesty (copyright Bob Monkhouse r.i.p.) is the new addition to Dryden's Angels li'l Miss Abigail.

The main event though, is the woman doing all the feeding. Today I celebrate 3 years of being married to the most beautiful woman in the world. Is it easy - nope, for one thing neither of us are perfect and the imperfections can get in the way. (I've been the winner of the Understatement of the Year award once or twice in my time.) For all that there be no denying the fact that my life is a whole heap better for being married to this here woman - the wife as I love to affectionately refer her as on this blog.

This is not the full soliloquy or sonnet of praise and thanksgiving for this woman, and the English language has yet to produce the vocabulary to really express how I feel in my heart for her, but on this day of all days it's just enough to say to the wife - thanks for three years of pain and joy, I love you.

All Change

You ever looked at your bedroom and thought perhaps it was time you moved the furniture around a bit? Perhaps put the bed next to the wardrobe and then have the dresser table on the back wall just to make it look a bit more cosy. Perhaps have the writing desk up by the window and the lava lamp up in the opposite corner to make it feel a bit more roomy.

I had that same feeling about the look of the blog. Sure the old writer gimmick look fitted the whole bit about me being verbose, wordy and a guy who obviously loved his English classes, but it was time for a bit of a change. A bit of a rejig. More in the mood of who I am.

Now I'm no html expert or whatever the code maybe. And the font on the side is not to my suiting (CD Diplomatic Translator: It Sux!), but it's just to change things around a bit. Just for a change you get me?

Plenty of other little and large changes on the way. Oh and for today's picture of Abigail who is now 2 weeks and 1 day old ... you'll just have to wait!! Heh-heh.

Abigail Asleep

The story surrounding the naming of our second child is rather intriguing. First of all in a moment that still amuses me to this day, my dad prophesied that the wife would be pregnant when he saw her on a flying visit in the country last September. I had no idea at the time, but he knew that the wife was pregnant and sure enough a short while after he left it was confirmed!

After that my brother got in on the action and we were sharing potential names for babies and whilst sharing the wife and I came across the name Abigail. At first I thought it was alright, but the more we thought about it, the more we loved the name. The wife had a good friend by the same name, a work colleague had also said that Abigail would be a good name for the child (hey there Charlie O'Dell - counsellor extraordinaire!) So from early on we decided that her name would be Abigail.

Subsequently a dear friend of ours fell asleep soon before the birth and her name was Abigail, which made the decision all the more poignant. Our prayer is that our daughter will have a similar impact of a joyful, friendly character as our dear friend.

As this baby Abigail slept on that Monday morning I was overjoyed to be blessed by another beautiful gift from God and like her name means, I pray that she will be her father and her Father's delight!

Fear not peeps, even better photos coming up soon!

Here's Abigail

Abigail Elizabeth Danielle Dryden was born on Monday 29 May 2006 at 3:25am. She weighed in at 6llbs and 2oz and so will not be eligible to fight to be the next WBO Heavyweight Champion. Other than that though, she be a fine healthy baby. Well on her way to being another beautiful Dryden Daughter.

Note: I take not credit for the beauty of my daughters. I was telling the wife that she's so beautiful she could have engaged with the Hunchback of Notre Dame and produced a beautiful child at which the wife sheepishly looked on and said 'I've got something I've been meaning to tell you. It's about the baby's father ...' So if anyone knows exactly where in Notre Dame this Hunchback lives, I'd appreciate the address. Just to clear up one or two things ...

Seriously though (what you mean I was joking?) more pictures of the beautiful baby will be posted on this blog SOON.

I'm Back

I'm Back

Hey yo, hey yo, hey yo, hey yo, hey yo - as Teddy Riley once wrote in an inspired lyric for an inspired song whose inspired title has been inspired out of me at this inspired time.

Still, the point is, yes, I do know how to type and yes I do know the importance of keeping in touch, and yes, leaving your loving eyes for a month is UNACCEPTABLE. But I have the ideal reason for it!

Put it this way, I've got an entry coming up that left me with an expression that you be seeing below. That's right, look out for pictures showing the birth of the latest addition to the Dryden Family, li'l Miss Abigail Elizabeth Danielle Dryden!

You heard it here first!
