‘Building 4 Life’ Longsight Fun Run

Get ready to dig out your running shoes for a brand new fun event in Manchester this Bank Holiday Monday.

‘Building 4 Life’ is organising a Fun Run (5k and 1.5k routes) around Birchfields Park, Birchfields Road, Longsight, to raise money for charity and get people all over Manchester Up and Running!!

The idea was inspired by the recent Manchester 10K BUPA Run which attracted over 25,000 entrants from across the city. Organisers are hoping the people of Longsight, Rusholme and surrounding areas will also turn out in their hundreds to support this worthwhile event.

Spokesperson Evonne Williams from Building 4 Life based in Longsight is organising the Fun Run. Evonne said “We hope this event captures the imagination and will be a kick start to anyone thinking of adopting a healthier lifestyle. The whole idea is to bring people together, to have fun and get fit. The Fun Run will be available to everyone no matter their age or physical ability. They will also be able to choose the way in which they take part – they can run, walk, jog or even push a pram or buggy! It will also be a great opportunity for local community groups and charities to raise funds through sponsorship.”

Local Celebrities have added their support to this worthwhile event. Dr Chris Steele of ITV’s “This Morning” said, “This is a fabulous initiative which I am happy to support. I would encourage as many people as possible to get involved in any activity which promotes healthy lifestyles.”

Charlie Walduck, the super slimmer featured on ITV’s “This Morning” has also lent his support to the Fun Run. Charlie weighed 44st, lost 20 stones in 12 months (a UK record!), and then a further 10 stones. He’s now lost a total of 30 stones, has run the London Marathon, and is running in the New York Marathon in November.

Charlie will officially start the Run. Dr Chris from ITV's This Morning is hoping to be there with Charlie to launch the event.

The Longsight Fun Run will be held on Bank Holiday Monday 28th August, at 10.30 am, with other fun activities taking place throughout the day.

Individual participants must be aged 12 or over. Anyone under 12 taking part must be accompanied by an adult. Entrants under the age of 16 must have the registration form signed by a parent or guardian.

The proposed route will start near Birchfields park’s prominent feature, The Boulder, that weighs a colossal 13 tons! The route will run alongside the playing fields, play facilities and nature trail, past the stone garden and natural habitat, along the lime tree avenue by the side of Gore Brook and finish back at The Boulder.
