"If you stick with this, living out what I tell you, you are my disciples for sure. Then you will experience for yourselves the truth, and the truth will free you.” (John 8:31, 32)There are many definitions of freedom some more appealing than others. Jesus’ words to those who believe Him are attractive and challenging. The appeal is in the promise to be set free, the challenge is His exclusive claim to hold the truth that sets us free. Where many other sources offer freedom –successful living of the rich and famous, or excessive living, or even moral codes based on other walks of life – Jesus’ challenge provokes commitment to living by His word. The challenge today is will His word be followed for others to experience that freedom in truth?
